Dynamic behavior of offshore spar platforms under regular sea waves
نویسنده
چکیده
Many innovative floating offshore structures have been proposed for cost effectiveness of oil and gas exploration and production in water depths exceeding one thousand meters in recent years. One such type of platform is the offshore floating Spar platform. The Spar platform is modelled as a rigid body with six degrees-of-freedom, connected to the sea floor by multicomponent catenary mooring lines, which are attached to the Spar platform at the fairleads. The response dependent stiffness matrix consists of two parts (a) the hydrostatics provide restoring force in heave, roll and pitch, (b) the mooring lines provide the restoring force which are represented here by nonlinear horizontal springs. A unidirectional regular wave model is used for computing the incident wave kinematics by Airy's wave theory and force by Morison's equation. The response analysis is performed in time domain to solve the dynamic behavior of the moored Spar platform as an integrated system using the iterative incremental Newmark's Beta approach. Numerical studies are conducted for sea state conditions with and without coupling of degrees-of-freedom.

However it is possible to use of numerical methods such as beta-Newmark in order to investigate the structural response behavior of the dynamic systems under random sea wave loads but because of necessity to analysis the offshore systems for extensive time to fatigue study it is important to use of simple stable methods for numerical integration. The modified Euler method (MEM) is a simple nume...

based assessment of offshore jacket type platforms against wave loading. This approach can be employed to obtain a more realistic estimate for the ultimate capacity of offshore platforms, in comparison to the commonly used push-over analysis. On the other hand, ocean and sea waves are both random they are irregular in shape, height, speed, period and directions. Therefore, one of the most impor...

Offshore oil and gas industry is blooming up towards the deep-water region of ocean deposit. Far off the continental shelf, the traditional jacket type fixed platform and bottom supported compliant platform are not suited to be economic offshore structure in deep water oil and gas exploration. Floating Spar platform is essentially most economic and efficient in these sea states. In the present ...

Monopile platforms are rather slim structures which are sensitive to wave loadings and the natural period of them are within the range of sea waves’ periods. Therefore, suitable dynamic analysis and wave modeling for these platforms is necessary. There are two methods for analyzing such flexible structures under wave loading, i.e., deterministic and random methods. In deterministic method...
